The height of the global pandemic was a tough period for Overland Expo - they canceled all the Expos in 2020, and held only one in 2021. But Overland Expo has come roaring back with four shows in 2022. The newest and most widely anticipated is Overland Expo Pacific Northwest in the high desert community of Bend, Oregon from July 7-9. Let's preview what's in store.
I live on the far eastern edge of the Pacific Northwest, and if the backroads of Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington are any indication, the PNW is one of the hotbeds of North American overlanding. It's no surprise with countless miles of gravel and dirt paths crisscrossing the vast swaths of public lands in this corner of the country. Deschutes County is a logical place for Overland Expo to plant their flag, with the great diversity of landscapes you can find in the Pacific Northwest right at its doorstep. From towering, glacier-bound peaks to endless desert horizons, central Oregon is a well-known adventure mecca.
Bringing their usual mix of overland education, festival style camping, fun social events, and hundreds of vendors featuring literally thousands of products, Overland Expo is also introducing some new experiences into the mix. For the moto crowd, the legendary Bill Dragoo is hosting the riding skills courses, Nexen Tires will be showing off some of their off-road oriented rubber, and you can get a ride-along in the new Ford Bronco.
Overlander will be at Overland Expo West in Bend from July 7 to July 9. You can still buy tickets - for just a day, or for the full weekend with camping included. It also doesn't hurt that central Oregon has some of the best off-road exploration opportunities in the country. The stetting is just about perfect. I'll be there myself with my new pickup to teach some courses on overland travel in Africa, and to sit in on a few roundtable discussions.
Swing by and meet the team, and find new horizons of your own. See you there!
